• THE AGE OF NATURAL MOTION

The human body has adapted to forward motion for thousands of years, developing extraordinarily sophisticated natural systems for absorbing impact and transferring momentum – including the capacity to continually strengthen itself. BIOM shoes work by supporting and enabling these natural systems, not inhibiting them.

No over-protection, excessive cushioning and motion control – only features to support Natural Motion have been kept.

  • PERFECT FIT

Place your hand in any other running shoe, and then do the same with BIOM. You’ll notice that BIOM is like a 360 degree mold of a foot, including every curve and nuance. This is because BIOM is constructed on an anatomically precise last created after scanning the feet of 2500 athletes. Only ECCO has the direct-injection technology to take advantage of this precision. BIOM literally fits the foot like a second-skin.

  • BIOM COMES NATURALLY TO ECCO

The material for these midsoles was created specifically for BIOM. Quite remarkable, this PU foam is extraordinarily flexible, yet its cushioning lasts up to twice as long as the EVA foam in the running shoes of other companies. Another key to BIOM is Yak leather, a very strong, durable yet light material that fits like a glove - another factor in the pleasurable second-skin fit of BIOM.

How does ECCO create such unique technologies? We are the only major shoemaker to insist on owning our own production (as opposed to outsourcing to independent factories).

  • WHY NATURAL MOTION WORKS

Revolutionary BIOM technology empowers rather than inhibits the foot’s own natural systems for absorbing impact. By guiding the foot to follow its natural motion paths, BIOM shoes help your legs and feet get stronger.

  • BIOM PROJECT HISTORY

In 2006, inspired by the barefoot runners of Africa, Dieter Kasprzak (president of ECCO and himself a shoe designer), initiated research to create a shoe that genuinely guided the foot to the optimal motion path of a barefoot runner. The resulting BIOM Project combined our knowledge of the foot with input from leading scientists in running biomechanics and testing by world champion triathlete, Torbjorn Sindballe.

  • NATURAL MOTION IS A BETTER WAY TO MOVE

Ordinary shoes inhibit the Natural Motion of the foot. This leads to a weakening of muscles and tendons. The most recent research proves that by guiding the foot along its Natural Motion paths, the foot and lower leg are strengthened, enhancing performance and reducing risk of injury.

  • THE ADVANTAGES OF NATURAL MOTION

The human foot evolved over thousands of years to walk and to run. Its 26 bones, 107 ligaments and 32 muscles work together to adapt to the ground and stabilize the body with each step. The foot is brilliantly designed to run with great efficiency and to get stronger with use.

  • THE BAREFOOT VS. BIOM

The barefoot is perfectly suited to run — but it is designed to do so on soft natural surfaces, not pavement. BIOM supports Natural Motion in real-world circumstances: on harder surfaces. By using anatomical structures that mimic the barefoot, BIOM guides the foot to move in the comfortable, efficient motion it was born for.
